RICHMOND, VA—The Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA), the largest public housing authority in the Commonwealth of Virginia, has announced the relocation of its administrative offices from locations at 901 and 918 Chamberlayne Parkway to 600 E Broad Street in downtown Richmond.
Current RRHA administrative offices located at 901 and 918 Chamberlayne Parkway are across the street from each other and are located in the Agency’s largest public housing community, Gilpin Court.
Gilpin Court was Richmond’s first public housing project and was built in stages—the first stage began in 1942. The 901 Chamberlayne Avenue Administrative Office building was established later in 1965 and underwent renovations in 1979. The 918 Chamberlayne Office building was built in 1956 and housed RRHA’s Housing Choice Voucher Program and Tenant Selection Office staff.
“The relocation of the administrative offices is designed to advance the operations and growth of the organization as RRHA continues to focus on repositioning the Agency as the leader in quality affordable housing, community revitalization and economic development. Also, it will ensure that RRHA is best positioned to deliver the highest quality services.”
RRHA CEO Steven Nesmith
RRHA’s new administrative offices will occupy the 4th and 5th floors of the 600 E Broad Street building and will offer a variety of benefits to RRHA residents, voucher holders and partner agencies. Among them, a neutral location for all RRHA public housing community residents and the convenience of being on the bus line and within walking distance of City Hall. The new location will also offer an in-house computer training center for new resident and landlord orientation. RRHA will continue to see customers by appointment, and walk-ins will be welcome on specific days. There is also space for public in-person attendance at Board of Commissioner and sub-committee meetings.
Another advantage for Gilpin Court residents will be better maintenance response times, as additional maintenance hours used previously for 901 and 918 Chamberlayne Parkway buildings can be redirected to respond more efficiently to resident service requests. No firm plans have been made regarding 901 and 918 but all options are currently being evaluated.
