McCray Appointed as New Resident Commissioner to RRHA

Marika F. McCray was recently appointed to serve on the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority’s (RRHA) Commissioners Board of Commissioners. Ms. McCray joined the Board on December 9, 2024 as the Board’s second resident commissioner replacing outgoing Commissioner Veronica Blount.

Ms. McCray is a participant in RRHA’s Housing Choice Voucher Program and has been a resident of the 6th Council Voting District for a decade. She currently resides in the Afton development and has been a voucher participant since 2015. Ms. McCray has a genuine interest in the housing needs of Richmond residents, especially those who reside in government subsidized housing.

Her goal as a commissioner is to give voice to those that are not being heard. As a part of the community, Ms. McCray knows and understands the challenges that many residents face.

“ I am looking forward to utilizing my skills, talent and abilities in collaboration with the other Board members to ensure the voices of the people that RRHA serves are heard. As a resident myself, my goal is to make a positive difference in the lives of those in my community, said Commissioner McCray.

“I am happy to welcome our newest Commissioner, Ms. McCray to this distinguished board and I look forward to her input and insight as we move forward in helping our residents achieve the goals of self-sufficiency, homeownership and wealth creation,” said RRHA CEO Steven Nesmith.

Commissioner McCray is a mother of four and a graduate of Highland Springs High School in Henrico County. Additionally, she holds a childcare degree from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. She currently works as a Lead Teacher at Midlothian Kids Academy. Her term on RRHA’s Board of Commissioners ends January 9, 2028.
