RRHA OPENS SELECT WAITLISTS – JUNE 24, 2024

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA (June 17, 2024) —On  Monday, June 24, 2024, Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA) will open several waitlists that will include project-based voucher, public housing, and  elderly housing  of various bedroom sizes. and housing choice voucher community waitlists  This waitlist opening follows a major campaign RRHA conducted in March 2024 that successfully “scrubbed’ the waitlist of persons who were no longer interested.  Of the current waitlist openings, the project-based communities will close Wednesday, June 26, 2024. All others will close on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 5 p.m.  For added customer convenience, two additional walk-in days have been added to apply in person to the waitlist – Monday, June 17 and Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 9a.m. – 12 p.m. (Noon).

The following waitlists will open Monday, June 24, 2024 in the following communities:

  • Blackwell Senior Cottages  – Richmond VA :  One (1) bedroom units
  • Watermark Gardens (55 & older)  – North Chesterfield, VA: One (1) bedroom units
  • Winchester Forest  –  North Chesterfield, VA: One (1), Two (2), and Three (3) bedrooms
  • Public Housing  – Richmond, VA: One (1) , Two (2), Three (3), Four (4) & Five (5) bedrooms
  • Public Housing (Elderly – 55 & older) – Richmond VA: One (1) bedroom units
  • Housing Choice Voucher – to receive a voucher

“RRHA is committed to moving those on our waitlist into affordable housing. This is one of the many weapons in our arsenal to fight homelessness in the city of Richmond. Our goal continues to focus  on minimizing  the impact of the current affordable housing crisis  by reopening our waitlists as soon as units are available and working diligently to reduce  the wait time to less than six months,” explains RRHA Chief Executive Officer, Steven Nesmith.

To apply for these waitlists , visit rrha.com, click the “Applicant Portal” at the top of the page. Log in or click “Click here to register” in the box at the bottom of the page. Enter your registration code or complete the personal details section to be assigned a registration code if you do not have one.  Applicants who have challenges applying or logging in or who may not be technologically savvy and in need of online assistance, should call the RRHA Customer Call Center at (804) 780-4200.

Paper applications are no longer distributed or accepted by mail, fax, or in person.

“For improved efficiencies, and a better customer experience, RRHA’s entire application process is now online. The HCVP team has also added two (2) additional walk-in days this month along with onsite customer access to our kiosks to assist those applicants that are interested in applying,” said Fatimah Smothers-Hargrove, Vice President of the Housing Choice Voucher Program and Tenant Selection Office.

RRHA also accepts walk-ins on Tuesdays from 9 am–Noon and Thursdays from 1–4 PM – 4p at our administrative office located at 600 East Broad Street, 4th floor.

For the month of June two additional walk-in days have been added:

  • Monday, June 17, 2024 from 9 am–12 pm (Noon)
  • Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 9 am–12 pm (Noon)
